About the Artist
Sally Herman was born deep in the heart of a Michigan winter, raised in sunny Florida, lived in New York City and escaped to San Francisco before settling down in Montreal, Quebec. A career in advertising and design ignited her passion for contemporary imagery, typography and paper. Moving these elements around, finding ways to create a vocabulary of abstraction brings her great delight and spools out an endless road ahead.

Artist Statement
As a collage artist, I first create a palette to work from using a variety of papers. I am always on the hunt for interesting, beautiful or unexpected texture. The stories I tell using a razor blade and patterned paper are tales about how relationships can be harmonious or bothersome, turbulent or peaceful, wicked, passionate, a form of solace, or a way into the heart. In this way, each work becomes an act of discovery for me, a visual adventure that leads to a psychological truth.
